About Name

Our name here at Mission Stone Church actually ties into our vision, master plan and core values.

Mission:  We are on mission for Christ. We seek to be a body of believers on mission for Christ.  We find our mission in several verses from the New Testament.

Matthew 28:18-20

18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Mark 12:29-31

29Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.  30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Luke 19:10

10For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Acts 1:8

8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Stone:  Our Stone is Christ.  He is our foundation and our Center.  Without Him we would have no reason to exist.  He is at the middle of everything we do.  We find scriptural evidence for this in several places.

Jesus quotes verses 22-23 from the 118th Psalm and applies it to Himself in Mark 12:10-11:

10Have you not read this Scripture:

“‘The stone that the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone;

11this was the Lord’s doing,

and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”

Then later Peter claims this stone that was rejected is in fact Christ when speaking before the Jewish high court in Acts 4:11-12:

11This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Upon Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Messiah, the long awaited Messiah,  Jesus ordains the church upon the rock solid truth of that declaration in Matthew 16:18:

18And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Church:  Lastly we are a church, we are not a civic club or a social oriented non-profit.  We are not here to entertain or soothe people.  We exist to proclaim Jesus and make much of God.  We seek His glory in all things and non for ourselves.

Acts 2:42-47

42And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Isaiah 26:8

8In the path of your judgments,

O LORD, we wait for you;

your name and remembrance

are the desire of our soul.

Colossians 3:17

17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
